Welcome To Splashed With Water,
An Autism Acceptance Blog & Boutique!
Hello! I am so glad to have you here, in my little corner of the internet. Let me begin by telling you a little bit about how Splashed With Water was born.
I am one of a plethora of women who, in recent years, have received autism diagnoses well into adulthood. To be more exact, I was just a few months shy of my thirty-second birthday when I found out I was autistic. I have always been a very private person who kept my personal matters to myself & a select few people who I completely trusted. However, when I finally received an official autism diagnosis, I knew I didn't want to keep this to myself, but I wanted to share it with others. I knew that by sharing my diagnosis, my experiences, & my knowledge; I would gain a better understanding from those in my circle & in my community. Not only that, but I could really make a difference by spreading awareness & acceptance of autism & the many ways it can look, as well. I started small & shared these very personal details about myself with those who were closest to me first. As I gained more & more comfort, I branched further out, telling people who were not as aware of the intimate details of my life. I did not expect this experience to be as rewarding & fulfilling as it was. I know this was due to just about every person I shared this information with responding by embracing me with unbelievable amounts of love, positivity, & support.
This gave me an idea. What if I branched out even further by starting an autism acceptance blog & online boutique to help make a difference in the world in the best way I know how: through writing & design? Writing poetry was a hobby of mine from elementary school through my mid-teens & graphic design became my passion when I was sixteen years old. This is when Splashed With Water was born. The name Splashed With Water is poking at a sensory sensitivity caused by autism that was undiagnosed for over thirty years. You can read more about the meaning behind the name in my first blog post here.
Thank you so much for being here & for following along on this journey!
